WHAT WE STAND FOR
We believe that true and lasting change rises from the ground up, fueled by collective action and lived experience. Across communities, transformative initiatives are already leading the way towards life-centered and resilient societies. Yet, too often, these movements that challenge the status quo lack the resources they need to thrive.
Bascule stands in solidarity with them and commits to supporting these initiatives by contributing what we can, so we advance together towards a future rooted in social and ecological justice.
OUR VALUES
Care
At the heart of our cooperative is a commitment to care, both within our team and in our relationships with our network of collaborators and allies. We recognise the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing environment. We extend this ethos of care to our allies, seeking to understand their struggles beyond the confines of projects and transactions.
cOurage
We embrace courage as a guiding value, empowering us to tackle uncomfortable projects and confront our own positionalities. With clear goals in mind, we approach our work fearlessly, knowing that meaningful change often requires stepping outside of our comfort zones.
radicality
Radicality infuses our work, driving us to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. As critical actors in our respective fields, we embrace radical strategies and approaches, recognizing that transformative change demands bold action. We continuously reassess how we work together and engage in political work and strategy with a creative and critical lens.
adaptability
Adaptability is key to our approach, allowing us to respond effectively to the evolving needs of our clients and the dynamic landscape of our disciplines. We remain flexible in our interactions with clients, tailoring our strategies to meet their specific contexts and requirements. Likewise, we adapt our methodologies and disciplines, recognizing the importance of staying agile in an ever-changing world.
collective intelligence
We believe in harnessing the collective intelligence of all stakeholders involved in our projects. Every member of our team contributes valuable insights and perspectives, and we actively seek input from our clients, viewing them as allies and collaborators rather than mere recipients of our services. We foster a network of allies and organizations, recognizing that collective intelligence extends beyond our immediate team and encompasses a broader community.
Theory of change
Bascule Coop operates on a relational worldview, moving beyond the Western mindset that separates humans from nature and relies on binary structures. We believe that people and ecosystems form an interconnected whole, which calls for recognizing our entangled roles and responsibilities. We therefore actively engage with systems thinking, ecofeminism, and decolonisation, as well as prioritize relationships, interdependence, and care as core principles in our work.
In a world facing multiple crises, we see ourselves as supporters of frontline change-makers rather than the primary drivers. Our goal is to offer our skills and resources in ways that amplify these actors’ impact, informed by an understanding of our own positional privilege and a focus on purpose-driven work.
Our non-profit cooperative advocates for an adaptive, context-aware approaches that responds to the diverse needs of transformative projects. These includes an appreciation for the importance of supportive relationships and the wellbeing of both our team and our collaborators and allies, as we view these bonds as fundamental to lasting change.
Guided by the pluriverse theory, we recognize that every situation calls for different strategies—whether it’s disrupting power structures, building communities, or pursuing reform. By leveraging our education, experience, and network, we aim to provide resources that empower key actors. We take on projects that push boundaries and question norms, committed to learning and growing through every collaboration and always striving toward transformative change.
Disclaimer
Our perspectives, originating from Western thinking, are complemented by an inspiration of decolonisation theories. Recognizing the impossibility of complete deconstruction, we do not purport to be entirely free from inherent biases. We are committed to ongoing internal efforts and within our projects and collaborations to actively integrate a critical feminist approach, principles of decolonisation, opposition to imperialism and capitalism.
