This report intends to establish a systemic analysis of the social, economic, and political drivers behind the Vermillion Coast vineyard’s difficulties. The research conducted for this report employed a mixed-method approach incorporating desk research, qualitative research through about 35 interviews, system thinking, and a political-ecology perspective to examine the state of French Vermillion Coast vineyards amid the climate crisis.
This analysis concludes that while the climate crisis is exacerbating agronomical and economic struggles, it is shaking an already trapped system based on short-term politics in a fragmented society increasingly counting on tourism for its economic sustainability. It is written in the form of a report intended to be accessible for the local population.
